The Mister Freedom® “7161” comes RAW/unwashed. The pattern is adjusted so that the measurements match the tagged size AFTER an initial cold soak/line dry. Expect about one inch shrinkage in the waist.
We recommend the usual protocol before wearing:

  • Cold soak in a tub for about 30-40mn, with occasional hand agitation.
  • Line dry, no heat dryer.

Note: The resulting stiffness of the garment after it has fully dried is due to the starch present in the denim fabric yarns. The rigidity will subside with wear.
At 5.7’ ~145 lbs, I easily fit a W30, but opted for a comfortable W31 with a cinched back.
The tagged size that will work best for you depends on your body type and how you like your clothes to fit.
Please refer to our sizing chart and reach out to sales@misterfreedom.com for further sizing advice.

When laundering is needed after repeat wear, turn jeans inside/out to prevent marbling of the fabric, hand wash or machine wash on DELICATE, cold water, mild eco-friendly detergent. Line dry.
Do not use the washer’s heavy-duty cycle. Hot water and heat dryer are also not recommended and may result in excessive and irreversible shrinkage.

Initially produced in USA, this 2025 limited release of the “7161” is crafted in Japan, following the same pattern, single-needle construction, same details and cut (but with a higher front rise), and same unusual mismatch selvedge denim twills combination. The randomly-mixed fabric panels consist of Japan-milled 14 oz. selvedge sugarcane fiber denims (SC301 “Okinawa” left-hand-twill and SC401 “Hawaii” right-hand-twill), and will contribute to a subtly contrasting natural patina over time, with normal wear.

The MF® “7161” Utility Trousers Type III is designed in California, USA, and produced in Japan in collaboration with Sugar Cane Co.
