The Watertown Shirt is sold unwashed and is patterned so that its measurements correspond to the tagged size after an initial cold rinse and line dry.

Before first wear, we recommend:

  • Machine rinse on a delicate cycle using cold water.
  • Line dry only. Do not use a heat dryer.

Once rinsed, we recommend choosing your usual Mister Freedom® shirt size. Please refer to the sizing chart for approximate post-rinse measurements. If you need assistance selecting a size, contact us at sales@misterfreedom.com.

Machine wash cold on the delicate cycle using a mild detergent and line dry. Avoid heavy-duty wash cycles and do not tumble dry, as excessive heat may result in unnecessary shrinkage.

The Mister Freedom® Watertown Shirt traces its origins to our original Tahiti Shirt, introduced in 2015. While the Tahiti featured printed tropical fabrics inspired by vintage French Polynesian textiles, the Watertown reimagines that same streamlined silhouette in a completely different spirit.

The design retains the signature elements of classic French casual shirts from the 1950s, including the distinctive col requin (shark fin) collar, shorter period-correct sleeves, straight untucked hem, and relaxed blend of sportswear and workwear styling.

For our Area 7161 collection, we paired the pattern with an exclusive Japanese indigo selvedge chambray previously featured on several MF® favorites. Woven from an 85% cotton and 15% linen blend, the fabric has a crisp hand, deep indigo tone, subtle reddish cast, and white/red selvedge ID. Designed to age beautifully, it develops rich character and fading through regular wear and washing.

Orange and yellow contrast stitching references the two-tone construction found on classic Californian denim garments. Originally born from practical factory production methods during the 1940s and 1950s, this detail now serves as a subtle visual signature while showcasing the garment's premium construction. Additional details include exposed selvedge on the front placket and chest pocket, period-correct sleeve length, and amber corozo buttons.

The shirt's name is borrowed from "Watertown," one of the early internal codenames for the remote Nevada facility better known today as Area 51. Developed as part of our Area 7161 collection, the garment draws creative inspiration from the history of this isolated desert research site while remaining, first and foremost, a timeless 1950s-inspired casual shirt.

Designed in California by Mister Freedom® and expertly crafted in Japan in collaboration with Sugar Cane Co., the Watertown Shirt combines thoughtful historical inspiration with exceptional Japanese craftsmanship.
